Best Dressed | Met Gala 2013

Last night saw the stars out in force in an epic, punk theme night at the Met Gala. Some stars took the theme too far (Halloween anyone?!) but some hit the nail on the head and found the perfect balance. Here's my best dressed of the night...

Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere
Blake Lively clearly didn't receive the punk memo and instead, opted for a high glamour Gucci Premiere gown featuring layers upon layers of black organza and overlayed with black and silver leaf embellishments.

I happen to love this look, I think the dress is stunning, but for sure is going to be a love it or hate it kind of look. Should she have saved this show-stopper for another occasion maybe?

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel

Seeing Taylor Swift embrace the punk theme is a welcome surprise. She wore a black J. Mendel gown with mesh inserts and a beautifully embellished neckline. She finished off the already punk-inspired look with a heavy smokey eye and dark nails. Her whole look had a very 'spooky' feel about it, Taylor really did well stepping away from her usual prim and proper looks.

Ashley Greene in Marchesa

Ashley Greene was probably the biggest surprise of the night for me, wearing something completely unexpected but completely suited to the punk theme. She stepped away from her usual feminine, pastel gowns and opted for a ballooned black and gold embellished Marchesa gown, hot off the Fall 2013 runway.

She opted for vampy make-up, dark nails and a slightly messy hairstyle to finish off her dark and punk look. I adore this dress, although I do wish she'd pulled it in at the waist more as it's leaning towards looking more like a paper bag!

Sienna Miller in Burberry
Sienna Miller has one of my favourite looks of the whole night. She stepped out of the box slightly by keeping her dress white, plain and simple and letting her gold studded leather jacket do all the talking whilst keeping the punk theme and her British roots alive in Burberry.

She finished off her look with a messy, waved hairstyle complete with a spiked headband and matching ear-cuff. I love Sienna's look, so glam, so punk and so effortless!

Beyonce Knowles in Givenchy

Beyonce stole the show at last years Met Gala and she's done it again this year, once again, wearing Givenchy. The strapless black gown was built on a croc-look corset, leading into a thigh-high slitted skirt rimmed with printed golden, flame-like colours all the way to the trail as though emerging from a fire.

And if the dress itself wasn't enough, she also wore matching fiery gloves and knee-high boots which added to the attention she already received on the night! Also, maybe adding to the punk theme of the night, she added a grommet belt and kept her hair and make-up simple and effortless.

Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier

Nina Dobrev followed the punk theme full opting for a Monique Lhuillier, black corseted pantsuit with a leather waist coat and a tulle skirt. Her black stoned jewellery and side-swept hair follow the punk look perfectly without going too must like a Halloween costume like some looks from the night did!

So there we have it, my round up of the best dressed from last nights Met Gala. My favourites would definitely have to be Beyonce and sienna Miller although all of these looks really stood out to me as front runners.

  1. Always, always love your Best Dressed posts!

Taylor Swift and Nina Dobrev look amazing! I'm not sure about the others, but then again I'm not a high-fashion/couture type of person and I tend to lean on less bold pieces.
