best dressed | emmy awards 2013

Last night was the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles and I am blown away by the celebrities in attendance and their looks. I've picked out a few of my absolute favourites and thought I'd give my thoughts on them...

Julianne Hough in Jenny Packham
Julianne Hough took a risk with this duck egg, sequined Jenny Packham gown and I personally feel that the risk payed off. I love the 'peek-a-boo' effect that you get from this dress as it's still elegant with the mesh overlay but it just adds something a little different. The soft toned colour is also absolutely stunning and works perfectly with the silver detailing.

Julianne finished off her look with a pearl clutch, soft beachy waves and a pink lip. This is definitely my favourite look from the entire night; she was daring but in a good way!

Sarah Hyland in Carolina Herrera
Sarah Hyland wore an emerald green Carolina Herrera gown with a plunging neckline, synced in waist belt and a black lace overlay and if this wasn't dramatic enough, she paired the dress with matching emerald earrings, cuff and a cocktail ring.

Sarah's look seemed to follow the dark romantic trend very well, being finished off by a sleek ombre ponytail and oxblood lips and nails. This look is beautiful, I just wish she'd dress more for her age once in a while.

Kiernan Shipka in Delpozo
Speaking of dressing age appropriate, 13-year-old Kiernan Shipka wore a cap-sleeve Delpozo dress with a bright colourful embroidered top and an organza A-line skirt with floral embellishments. I was so excited when I first saw this look, Kiernan looks exactly like a 13-year-old girl should, keeping it super fun with still an air of sophistication for the red carpet with a simple waved ponytail and gold sandals; perfect!

Connie Britton in Naeem Khan
Connie Britton wore what was probably the most stand-out dress of the night purely for the material and texture of it. She wore a velvet, column Naeem Khan gown with gold embroidered detailing around the bodice and train. This was a daring choice but Connie definitely pulled it off paired with matching metallic nails, clutch and subtle make-up.

Now I couldn't not mention Connie's hair in this post, her hair is almost as famous as she is (it has its own twitter page) and cor, blimey she didn't disappoint last night with her flawless locks waved beautifully - serious hair envy coming from my direction!

Kerry Washington in Marchesa
Kerry Washington wore a very romantic looking Marchesa gown which had a lot going on but it worked for her! The blush gown featured a ribbon bodice, floral appliqués, beaded embellishments and a long tulle train but even with all this, Kerry still looked great. She finished off her look with waved hair, a nude lip and a pearl box clutch. Kerry's looks are always very hit and miss for me but this dress just somehow worked and complimented her skin tone beautifully.

Do you agree with my best dressed picks? Who wore your favourite look of the night?

Taylor Swift In Hervé Léger By Max Azria | MTV Video Music Awards 2013

Taylor Swift was the epitome of Hollywood Glamour at last nights MTV Video Music Awards. She wore dark blue, almost black bandage-style Hervé Léger by Max Azria gown with crystal details and a plunge neckline.

She continued her smouldering look with pin-up style curls, sparkling earrings not to dissimilar to her dress), her signature red lip and matching nails.

Taylor has really started to amp up her looks lately and she's doing a darn good job too. She definitely had one of my absolute favourite looks of the night, simple but striking - complete with hands-on-hip pose and all.

Selena Gomez in Atelier Versace | Video Music Awards 2013

Last night was the MTV Video Music Awards in New York and the stars were out in force, some looking great and others, not so much. One person that really stood out though was Selena Gomez who wore an absolutely stunning midnight blue Atelier Versace gown complete with an exposed bustier, thigh-high split and major stud detailing around the seams.

She paired the show-stopping dress with emerald green earrings and simple heels to keep all of the focus on the gown. I can guess that this will be a love it or hate it look but I personally love it; it's stunning.

Do you love this look as much as I do or is it not really your cup of tea?

Best Dressed | Met Gala 2013

Last night saw the stars out in force in an epic, punk theme night at the Met Gala. Some stars took the theme too far (Halloween anyone?!) but some hit the nail on the head and found the perfect balance. Here's my best dressed of the night...

Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere
Blake Lively clearly didn't receive the punk memo and instead, opted for a high glamour Gucci Premiere gown featuring layers upon layers of black organza and overlayed with black and silver leaf embellishments.

I happen to love this look, I think the dress is stunning, but for sure is going to be a love it or hate it kind of look. Should she have saved this show-stopper for another occasion maybe?

Taylor Swift in J. Mendel

Seeing Taylor Swift embrace the punk theme is a welcome surprise. She wore a black J. Mendel gown with mesh inserts and a beautifully embellished neckline. She finished off the already punk-inspired look with a heavy smokey eye and dark nails. Her whole look had a very 'spooky' feel about it, Taylor really did well stepping away from her usual prim and proper looks.

Ashley Greene in Marchesa

Ashley Greene was probably the biggest surprise of the night for me, wearing something completely unexpected but completely suited to the punk theme. She stepped away from her usual feminine, pastel gowns and opted for a ballooned black and gold embellished Marchesa gown, hot off the Fall 2013 runway.

She opted for vampy make-up, dark nails and a slightly messy hairstyle to finish off her dark and punk look. I adore this dress, although I do wish she'd pulled it in at the waist more as it's leaning towards looking more like a paper bag!

Sienna Miller in Burberry
Sienna Miller has one of my favourite looks of the whole night. She stepped out of the box slightly by keeping her dress white, plain and simple and letting her gold studded leather jacket do all the talking whilst keeping the punk theme and her British roots alive in Burberry.

She finished off her look with a messy, waved hairstyle complete with a spiked headband and matching ear-cuff. I love Sienna's look, so glam, so punk and so effortless!

Beyonce Knowles in Givenchy

Beyonce stole the show at last years Met Gala and she's done it again this year, once again, wearing Givenchy. The strapless black gown was built on a croc-look corset, leading into a thigh-high slitted skirt rimmed with printed golden, flame-like colours all the way to the trail as though emerging from a fire.

And if the dress itself wasn't enough, she also wore matching fiery gloves and knee-high boots which added to the attention she already received on the night! Also, maybe adding to the punk theme of the night, she added a grommet belt and kept her hair and make-up simple and effortless.

Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier

Nina Dobrev followed the punk theme full opting for a Monique Lhuillier, black corseted pantsuit with a leather waist coat and a tulle skirt. Her black stoned jewellery and side-swept hair follow the punk look perfectly without going too must like a Halloween costume like some looks from the night did!

So there we have it, my round up of the best dressed from last nights Met Gala. My favourites would definitely have to be Beyonce and sienna Miller although all of these looks really stood out to me as front runners.

AMY ADAMS IN OSCAR DE LA RENTA | OSCARS 2013

Amy Adams probably made the biggest impact on the Oscars red carpet last night wearing a fairytale, princess-like Oscar de la Renta gown. The powder greyish-blue colour wasn't the most exciting, but this was made up for in the design with layers and layers of feathered tulle making up the skirt and trail behind her.

Amy kept with the soft look of the dress with a simple updo and a pale pink lip along with a pair of drop earrings and matching bracelet. The attention was definitely kept solely on the dress but with its mile long train it would certainly have been hard to miss!

JENNIFER HUDSON IN ROBERTO CAVALLI | OSCARS 2013

Jennifer Hudson absolutely wowed last night at the Oscars wearing a metallic blue, long-sleeved Roberto Cavalli Couture gown complete with a high slit. The dress had an almost fish scale look to it which was finished off with a pair of neon metallic blue Jimmy Choo pumps and a matching clutch.

Jennifer looked dazzling on the night and although following the 'it' colour of blue, she somehow managed to stand out from the rest and this look is beyond beautiful. She wore definitely one of my favourite looks of the night.

TAYLOR SWIFT IN ELIE SAAB | BRIT AWARDS 2013

Taylor Swift really is making a conscious effort to step away from her usual, demure red carpet looks and at last nights Brit Awards, she made a show-stopping entrance. Wearing a black Elie Saab gown with two thigh-high sheer panels and a statement gold belt, Taylor took drama to a new level.

Her dress was simple but dramatic and her hair and make-up followed this suit, with a blunt fringe and a heavy lined eye completed with a subtle nude lip. Taylor really is stepping up when it comes to her recent fashion choices and I think this may be my favourite of all her looks!

CARRIE UNDERWOOD IN ROBERTO CAVALLI | GRAMMY AWARDS 2013

Of course I had to include Carrie Underwood in my looks from the Grammys, she always looks impeccable and last nights look didn't disappoint. She wore a black and grey Roberto Cavalli gown with lace and embroidered detailing at the top, leading down to a sheer, mermaid-esque bottom equally embellished.

Worn with a statement diamond necklace from Johnathon Arndt, red nails and a smokey eye, Carrie looked quite different from her other previous looks but all the more elegant in doing so. Also, I have to mention her performance last night which was great as expected but her dress was beautiful.

The dress itself was metallic grey silk, full skirted and beaded at the top, but what really made it so different was during her performance itself, hundreds of butterflies were projected on and around her as well as various flowers, stars and light patterns that made it just that little bit more special - and the fact she sung two of my favourite songs but that's a whole different post!

KELLY ROWLAND IN GEORGES CHAKRA | GRAMMY AWARDS 2013

Kelly Rowland proved last night at the Grammys that standing is out is definitely the way to go. She wore a black Georges Chakra gown with almost geometric cut-outs and a tulle, almost fish tail bottom.

Kelly kept her look provocative but fierce completing the statement dress with a simple low bun/bangs combination and subtle emerald earrings. This was one of my favourite looks of the night, Kelly tried something different and daring and it really paid off this time!

RIHANNA IN AZZEDINE ALAIA | GRAMMY AWARDS 2013

At last nights Grammys, Rihanna blew me away with her 'lady in red' look that may have matched the red carpet but she in no way blended in. She looks absolutely fantastic wearing a custom Azzedine Alaia gown that really strays away from her usual award looks.

The sheer train flowed perfectly and the cross over detailing on the halter around the front and the back really was a lovely touch giving the look a much more elegant appearance. She topped off the look with a matching red lip and subtle loose curls. Rihanna was definitely my favourite of the evening by far!

NINA DOBREV IN ELIE SAAB | SAG AWARDS 2013

Nina Dobrev wore a vibrant, fuchsia Elie Saab gown to last nights SAG Awards, with laced cut-outs around the sides. Nina always looks so chic at events and this is no exception, the dress fitted her perfectly and paired with drop earrings and a simple clutch, really makes the colour pop (for want of a better word)!

Nina was definitely one of the stand outs from last nights red carpet and this has to be one of my all time favourites of her looks; I love that she went with a bright colour rather than black which we saw a lot! What do you think of wearing such a bright colour on the red carpet?

NICOLE KIDMAN IN ALEXANDER MCQUEEN | SAG AWARDS 2013

Last night saw the 2013 SAG Awards and one of my favourite looks of the night came from Nicole Kidman wearing a stunning Alexander McQueen Couture gown. Completely covered in navy blue sequined embellishments, the dress was topped off with a thigh-high slit and a sheer underlying neckline.

This look is definitely one very typical and suited to Nicole but this is by far one of the most beautiful she has worn, although, I'm not completely sold on the short, straight hairstyle. That being said there's no denying that Nicole is one of my best dressed of the whole night.

KIMBERLEY WALSH IN UNRATH STRANO | NTA'S

I'll be the first to admit, that when it comes to British television, I'm not a fan at all and I pretty much avoid it to save the disappointment I know I would have watching it. That begin said, I did look at the looks from last nights National Television Awards and one look that really stood out to me was Kimberley Walsh wearing Unrath Strano. She wore a duck egg and navy, satin dress with lace detailing at the top and on the arms. I absolutely love this dress, it's beautiful. Her performance on the night however, left much to be desired....

GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS | BEST DRESSED

Taylor Swift in Donna Karen
Taylor Swift wore a satin, burgundy Donna Karen Atelier gown with sheer side panels and low open back. This is very different to her usual embellished, sequinned gowns and is much more of a chic look with a mermaid style cut giving the perfect silhouette. Taylor kept her hair simple with a side twist bun and wore matching coloured drop earrings.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors
Emiy Blunt wears a very fitting, golden embellished Michael Kors gown with side cut outs and a slight mermaid style. She wore her hair in a high bun and paired the whole look with berry coloured jewels  and a gold jewelled clutch.

Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
Nicole Kidman wore a black, fitted Alexander McQueen dress with mesh detailing at the waist and contrasting gold studs around the neck. Her jewellery was slightly mismatched with various coloured bracelets but this is overlooked by the dress giving a very simple silhouette.

Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera
Lucy Liu wowed in a duck egg, strapless dress with an oversized skirt and an unusual floral print. Worn with a side plait in the hair and minimal jewellery, the dramatic shape of the dress and unexpected nature works perfectly together this time.

PEOPLES CHOICE AWARDS 2013 | LEA MICHELE IN ELIE SAAB

Last night was the People's Choice Awards and by far, the best dressed of the entire night for me had to be Lea Michele wearing a bright pink, Elie Saab mini dress with bead embellishments and lace panels. She paired the striking dress with a pair of matching strappy heals and simple jewellery, although, these are hardly noticeable worn with this amazing dress; this has to be one of my favourite looks of all time! For once a great look was achieved without a huge, dramatic dress. Nice and simple does the job this time, Lea, take note!

BEST DRESS | UNICEF SNOWFLAKE BALL

Two posts in one day, I'm on a roll!

I just love it when the Snowflake Ball comes around each year, everyone looks so elegant and very reminiscent of an ice, metallic scene (that makes sense in my head)! This year left me somewhat disappointed though and I found myself only able to choose three looks that stood out to me in a way I felt I could write a best dressed post and here they are...

Allison Williams
Girls star Allison Williams wore probably my favourite look of the night, keeping it very elegant with a muted duck-egg Naeem Khan gown and very minimal jewellery. The lace overlay and the metallic embellishments really give off a mermaid vibe, continued through the fit and slight tail. I like how Allison styled this look and for me, this dress on its own is a real stand-out.

Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez wore a black Dolce & Gabbana halter-necked gown with bronzed gold embellished detailing around the neck and body. The panel effect on this dress really flatters Selena's figure and creates a slight fish tail that just adds to the otherwise figure-hugging dress. Selena completed her look with a black clutch, a simple nude lip and contrast red nails and earrings. This look isn't the best I've ever seen, but it really suits the occasion and I like the detailing a lot.

Katy Perry
We all must remember the showstopping caped looks donned by Gwyneth Paltrow and Lana Del Rey earlier this year, but now Katy Perry has taken on that trend with a navy blue Naeem Khan cut-out gown and matching cape. The dress itself is very flattering on Katy and the floral cutout detailing down the front really is a nice touch. The cape however just doesn't do it for me; I like other variations of capes that I've seen in the past, but the sheer material and loose cut of this one really don't do the dress itself any justice. This look still deserves some recognition though as the styling and overall look work perfectly.

BREAKING DAWN PART 2 PREMIERE | ASHLEY GREENE IN DONNA KARAN

Ashley Greene never fails to look amazing on the red carpet and last night at Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere was no exception. She wore a pinkish nude, one-shoulder gown with perfectly placed ruffled layers and a plaited, wrap design body.

This dress is just beautiful, the colour is divine and the layers fall over each other so neatly; paired with diamond drop earrings and pinned back curls, this look couldn't be made any better.

Ashley definitely stole the spotlight for me at the premiere and her apparent love for Donna Karan gowns pays off every time; it's a match made in heaven.

Do you like Ashley Greene's look?

BREAKING DAWN PART 2 PREMIERE | ELLE FANNING IN PRADA

For once I am actually lost for words. Last night Elle Fanning was one of the many stars to walk the Breaking Dawn (part 2) red carpet wearing one of the most talked about looks of the night. Elle wore a pale pink, satin dress from the Prada Spring 2013 collection which, although a tad unshapely and unflattering, is not the reason her look got so much attention.

The shoes. Who knew Prada could actually create a shoe that make you look like you have huge bricks attached to your feet. The platform alone is bad but then the hollowed middle covered in cerise pink satin and then silver and nude straps; disaster. Now I do get that she is only 14 and wants to keep her looks fun, but even so, these shoes are hideous and without them, the dress could have just been okay, but with them she honestly looks like she's heading to the beach or something.

Do you like Elle Fanning's look? What do you think her Prada platforms?

EMA AWARDS 2012 | RITA ORA IN MARCHESA

Rita Ora took the phrase; 'go big or go home' to new extremes last night at the EMAs, wearing a vibrant blood-red Marchesa gown. The floral embroidered dress with a full volume taffeta skirt was worn with Rita's signature red lip and a wavy faux bob to create a chic red carpet look.

This look actually left me speechless, you can't deny that this look is stunning and she definitely stole the show last night. I just wish I could have seen this dress in real-life as I can tell the photographs don't do it the justice it needs at all.

Now whether you're a fan of Rita Ora or not, her whole look last night was beautiful. Are you a fan of her Marchesa gown?
